This blue has a name.
Kerama Blue.
What Is Kerama Blue
The Kerama Islands sit about 50 kilometers west of Naha. A cluster of small islands, each with its own character — Zamami, Aka, Geruma, Tokashiki.
The water between them is a color that doesn’t look real.
Turquoise at the edges. Deep blue further out. Clear enough to see the bottom at depths that shouldn’t be that clear.
Locals and divers started calling it Kerama Blue. The name stuck.
How to Get There
A high-speed ferry from Naha’s Tomari Port. About 50 minutes to Zamami Island, depending on the route and vessel.
No large resorts. No crowds by mainland Japan standards. Just the water, the boats, and the island.
The Short Version
50 minutes from Naha.
